At Técnico Investment Club, we aim to improve financial literacy among Técnico’s community by providing a space where engineers can talk finance - both personal and institutional.
Team for school year 2024/2025
Técnico Investment Club (TIC), is a dynamic and forward-thinking student organization dedicated to bridging the gap between engineering and finance. Driven by a passion for financial management, economics, and investment strategies, our club offers a unique platform for students to explore the intersection of these disciplines.
Our mission is to improve financial literacy among Técnico's community, and to provide career counseling and opportunities to our members. We believe that engineers can bring a unique perspective to finance, and we're committed to helping our members develop their skills and achieve their goals in this field.
TIC is led by a diverse and talented executive board, with members from a variety of academic disciplines and backgrounds. With 50 members and 6 departments - Asset Management, Investment Banking, Quantitative Trading, External Affairs, Human Capital and Marketing - our club is well equipped to offer a wide range of experiences and opportunities for our members.
In addition to providing hands-on experience in investment and finance, TIC is also dedicated to educating our members in various areas of finance, including financial analysis, portfolio management, risk management, and investment banking. Through workshops, guest speaker events, and real-world projects, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the financial world and to equip our members with the skills they need to succeed.
2024/2025
It wasn't until the 2023/2024 academic year that the first official board, comprising the founding members, was established. On October 20, 2023, TIC held its inaugural elections, marking the formation of its first elected board and governing bodies.

2022/2023
Técnico Investment Club (TIC) was founded in the 2021/2022 academic year to address the lack of an investment-focused organization at Instituto Superior Técnico and combat financial illiteracy among young engineers. The idea for TIC originated from a Reddit post by one of the founding members, inquiring about the existence of a finance center at IST. The following year, in October 2021, the founding members – Rafaela Palácio, Tomás Van Loock, Francisco Lopes, and Ricardo Longhini – took a significant step by submitting a proposal for TIC's creation to the faculty board, which was subsequently approved.
