Beyond your department

Most of what we do is behind the door

Of the 34 events in the club record, 19 were closed engagements with an outside organisation: office visits, case studies, competitions and challenges you had to be in TIC to attend. Departments take them on together, so what you get is not limited to the team you join.

And the ones we run ourselves

Not everything comes from outside. Departments open their work to the rest of the club, members and alumni pitch to each other, and someone who knows a subject runs the session on it.

  • May 2026Valuation training run by the Investment Banking department
  • Feb 2026Pitch-TIC: members and alumni pitch to each other, eight minutes and questions
  • May 2025Pitch Day: Investment Banking and Asset Management present their projects
  • May 2025First strategy goes live, and the Asset Management vs Quant competition begins

The process

How recruitment works

  1. 01

    Application & CV

Fill in the form and pick the department you're drawn to, with a one-page CV in clean, consistent formatting. Think through and research your answers: show why TIC matters to you, what you'd bring to the team, and state your interest in finance clearly.

  2. 02

    Group case study

Work through a real case in a small group. We're watching how you think, structure a problem, and collaborate, not whether you already know finance.

  3. 03

    Interview

A conversation to get to know you and find your best fit, with some technical questions focused on the department you chose, to see where you're starting from.

  4. 04

    Welcome to TIC

Onboarding, your department, and your first real project alongside your degree.

Before you ask

Common questions

Do I need a finance background?

No. Most members learn finance after joining. TIC was founded so that engineers could learn it by doing, and curiosity and willingness to build matter more than previous experience.

Who can apply?

Any IST student, from any degree. Current members come from Computer Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial Engineering & Management, Mathematics, Data Science, Bioengineering and more.

What do I get beyond my department?

Most of the club's event record is closed to non-members: the office visits, case studies, challenges and competitions with the organisations listed above. Departments take them on together, so the team you join is not a ceiling on what you end up working on.

When does recruitment open?

The Autumn 2026 application window runs from 1 Sep to 18 Sep. The full public timeline is shown below. Any exact times or rooms are sent directly to candidates.

How does the process work?

Four steps: an application form with a one-page CV, a group case study, an interview, and then welcome to TIC. Full breakdown above.

What if I don't get in this round?

You can apply again next semester. In the meantime, many TIC events at IST are open to all students: public talks, case studies with visiting companies, and financial literacy sessions.
